What is SEM?
The letters SEM stand for Search Engine Marketing, for which the non-literal translation into Spanish would be more or less “Marketig para Buscadores”… .
SEM is a search engine positioning strategy, through Sponsored Links or ads that stand out in the organic list of results, due to having a strategic positioning at the top of that list or on the right-hand side of the list.
The main advantage of SEM is that the website to be positioned or promoted appears almost immediately on the first page of the most important search engines (between approx. 10 minutes and 24 hours).
Consulweb considers it an essential tool in achieving a good Online Marketing strategy. We believe that to guarantee good results for our clients, it is necessary to work with both SEO and SEM.
“Pay per click”, “pay per visit”, “sponsored links” systems (PPC) are advertising models through which an announcer pays for each real visit received through the system. In a PPC search engine, announcers vie with each other to obtain the best positions in the key words that most interest them. Those that pay the most succeed in positioning their ad at the top part of the results list, a priori obtaining a greater number of visitors, but increasing the cost per visitor.
The main PPC systems currently operating in Spain are: Google Adwords, MIVA (previously Espotting) and Overture. They are all fuelled by “sponsored results” or “advertising links” to the main search engines and portals in the Internet.
Google, Overture or MIVA (previously Espotting) have pay per visit programmes. These programmes allow announcers to select a series of key words, URLs linked to those that direct the visitors, customised titles and descriptions for each key Word, elements that appear in the results given by Google, Overture and MIVA (previously Espotting) and in their respective associate networks.
Overture and MIVA (previously Espotting) show their results (sponsored) before the search results of many search engines and directories in the Internet. The order in which the results are shown depends on the bets made by the announcers. As for Google, it shows its advertising results in coloured boxes, at the top or to the right of their search results. The order of the announcers in the case of Google no longer depends on the ads of announcers, but on other elements such as the click-through Rate (CTR) of the ad.
Consulweb administers, manages and optimises your campaigns in Google and Yahoo, through Sponsored Links or Adwords, to ensure your investment incurs the lowest cost and is extended over the longest possible time.
